forgiveness,
or lack thereof,
seeking retribution,
not renewal of love

holding on to anger,
vengeful to the core,
not caring enough to love her,
but wanting nothing more

revenge pure and sweet
on the one who stole his lot
though he discarded it complete,
leaving her fully distraught

saving face the bigger prize
than loving her as deserved,
allowing bitter hate to capsize
hope of love preserved

energy devoted to pettiness and spite,
diverted from humble reconciliation
reparations never to requite,
eroding the crumbling foundation

forgiveness,
or lack thereof,
holding on to anger,
forfeiting love

The heart is sometimes the king of the art of devious.

      Hello Ferg :
The best part about this is the way you circled the poem . You begin and you end in the same place . This is a marvelous characteristic to find in a poem and it makes the reader appreciate the skill of the poet . The style is markedly different from my own , but so is most everyone's . I applaud your presentation , just the same .
